Josh Smith wants to play with Celtics

The Atlanta Hawks have begun testing what they could acquire for Josh Smith on the trade market, and the pogo-stick forward reportedly would not mind a change of scenery. One of the teams on his short list of preferred trade destinations? The Boston Celtics. (Yahoo! Sports)

The Atlanta Hawks have started to gauge trade interest on forward Josh Smith, and Smith isn’t averse to ending his seven-year stay with his hometown team, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Monday.

Smith hasn’t requested a trade, but has privately told league friends that the Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic are his preferred destinations should the Hawks decide to move him.

“The relationship has run its course,” said a league source with knowledge of the dynamic. …

The Hawks have looked to identify veteran players near the end of their contracts, sources said, but have had no serious discussions on trading Smith.

“They’re looking for a change,” one Eastern Conference executive said. “They would die to be rid of Joe Johnson’s contract or move Smith, but they won’t give [Smith] away. They want something in return.”

I understand why Smith would make a lot of sense on the Celtics. He’s one of the premier athletes in the NBA, a pterodactyl-winged forward who can at times dominate both ends of the floor. He’s still young (25 years old), will make a reasonable $13 million per year for the next two seasons, and would provide enough highlights to feed a small family. If the Celtics could acquire him without losing any of the Fab Four, Smith might extend their championship window by another year or two, then help the Celtics transition into a Rondo-centric future.

I would love to see the high flying J-Smoove in Celtics green but not at the expense of losing either Ray or KG. If the Celtics could somehow manage a trade involving a sign and trade with Big Baby, a draft pick and Jermaine O'Neal since that is what the Hawks want an expiring contract(O'Neal) and a Center so they can move Al Horford to the power forward position.This move would definitely help the ease the burden on many of aging vets if we can make this deal without giving up any of the core players. Our lineup would be probably be the best in the league especially if Ray comes off the bench to take control of the second unit.

Ray is a class act and see's the best way for the team to compete next year is letting the younger Jeff Green get more minutes. Its not who starts the game its who finishes the game and the way I see it the finishing lineup will look like this Rajon, Ray, Paul, Jeff, KG which is pretty darn good I think. I think this team has one more run in them as long as we get good backups that can help the veterans get rest. And we need a true backup to Rajon for real he can't keep playing 40mins a night.

ESPN cannot be serious how the hell do you not a single Title Town USA team in the overall top 10. And whats even worse the best New England are the Patriots at 38. 38! What the fuck. I don't understand how the Bruins and Red Sox are ranked so low they have on the of best followings and on track to contend for years to come with young talent coming through and contributing. Revs and Cannons need to step it up

Just think New England only needs two more championships to conquer this century the Great MLS Cup and whatever they call the Major League Lacrosse championship. The Revs and Cannons need to step up their game pronto to get on the level of the all these great teams this decade. The Revs could of won like 3 MLS cups but they blew every single time. And I honestly can't even tell if the Cannons are even good at all. I think they were 3-1 this year or something when I looked earlier today.

How good does Moneyball the Movie look?

I read the book and to the say the trailer looks pretty damn good. When you can get Brad Pitt as your movie's big star your movie will do good. If no one has ever read the book it is basically about how Oakland A's GM Billy Bean takes players no one wanted and finds undervalued players to create a team no one thought could compete. Billy Bean is basically the godfather of using sabermetrics to make a MLB roster. I definitely think when this movie premieres in fall anyone who is movie buff should see this.

PS: Former Red Sox Catcher Scott Hatteberg has a major character in the movie which is pretty good for a middle of the road player.

Could Scott Kazmir become a Red Sox?

LA Times:Scott Kazmir has made no progress in his minor league rehabilitation stint with triple-A Salt Lake, and it now appears to be a matter of time before the Angels release the struggling left-hander and swallow his $14.5-million contract.Kazmir, making his fourth start for Salt Lake on Thursday night, gave up six runs -- five earned -- and six hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked five batters, hit three batters and struck out three. Of his 91 pitches, 52 were strikes. He was so erratic that three of his pitches went behind right-handed batters.Kazmir, who spent a month in extended spring training in hopes of finding a consistent delivery and release point, has given up 23 earned runs in 13 2/3 innings for a 15.15 earned-run average in his four starts with 16 walks and 13 strikeouts.

If Scott Kazmir gets released and goes through waivers and no one selects because of his high price tag he could become a great bargain for the Red Sox as a 5th starter. Even though Wake has been pitching great he is 44 years old. Also we have Kevin Millwood in AAA but in all honesty who would you rather have Millwood or a 27 year old lefty in Kazmir. Don't get me wrong Kazmir is not the same pitcher he was 3-5 years ago but he still can get people out when he puts his mind to it. This reality might not come true but you never know weirder things have come true.

PS: How filthy would the Red Sox be if somehow Kazmir slips into the Sox grasp? Only time will tell.

It's not a gimmick the Padres drafted the great-nephew of Eddie Gaedel not for a gimmick but he can really play.  Kyle Gaedele is proud to be related to Eddie Gaedel no matter how small of a player he was. "Gaedele, whom the Padres picked in 6th round of the draft on Tuesday afternoon, is a great-nephew of 3-foot-7 Eddie Gaedel, the shortest (and lightest) player in major league history and star of its greatest stunt." To not take away from Kyle is a pretty decent player and no slouch to picked in the 6th round you have to be pretty good since there are so many rounds in the MLB draft. He might not blow you away with his stats but they are pretty decent given the team he was on. In an open letter to Scottie Pippen, Kareem rips him for calling MJ the greatest scorer of all-time and not him.
